An array of Indiana Jones-inspired "artifacts": idol, skull, grail, stone

Indy’s big four conquests are available to you this week.

One of the best parts of the Indiana Jones films is that Indy is always after something tangible. In particular, the fertility idol, the Sankara Stones, the Holy Grail, and a crystal skull. That’s great for fans because it means you can act like Indy and have one or all of these items in your collection. Unlike Indy, though, you don’t have to go into any deep dark caves or fight the forces of evil. You can just go to a Disney theme park or log onto the internet.

Recently, Disney announced that it would be releasing some very, very slick new Indiana Jones merchandise. There are the four items mentioned above: the fertility idol from Raiders of the Lost Ark, a Sankara Stone from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, the Holy Grail from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and a crystal skull from… wait, which of the three and only three Indy movies is that from? Here are some closer images.

“To make sure these items were as authentic as possible, we reviewed the film props from the Lucasfilm Archives to study size, reference details, capture 3D scans, and more in order to recreate them into collectible items,” Cody Hampton, senior manager of Brand Merchandising, said on the Disney Parks Blog. “We also try to anticipate features that fans would expect from these replicas, so we added a light up feature to the Sankara Stone, as well as the crystal skull.” These will all be available Friday June 24 at Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, CA, Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL, and on shopdisney.com.

Plus, this is just the beginning of the Indy-themed collectibles. Later this year, Disney will be offering the Staff of Ra headpiece as well as the Indiana Jones voodoo doll used in Temple of Doom. So, so cool. Here are some photos.

Prop replicas like these have been available for years but this has to be the easiest way to acquire them ever. The only problem is, where do you stop?

Insiders claim Rockstar has put GTA IV, Red Dead Redemption remasters on ice to focus on GTA VI

In a nutshell: Rockstar Games’ bungled launch of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition left a bad taste in customers’ mouths and reportedly prompted the company to shelf other remasters it had planned. Sources familiar with the matter told Kotaku that Rockstar has paused work on all remakes to focus on developing Grand Theft Auto VI.

A recent tweet from a GTA insider claimed Rockstar was no longer working on remakes of Red Dead Redemption and GTA IV.

Rockstar back in February confirmed that the next entry in the GTA franchise was well underway and suggested the scope will be significantly beyond what they have previously delivered. GTA V landed way back in 2013 and has enjoyed unprecedented longevity thanks in part to its expansive in-game world and attention to detail. If Rockstar can significantly surpass that game in scope, they’ll no doubt have another winner on their hands.

Kotaku’s sources further noted that remasters of RDR and GTA IV could be revisited after GTA VI ships. Unfortunately, they didn’t have any information to share regarding when that might happen and Rockstar hasn’t shared any launch details either.

If given the choice, which path would you prefer? Remasters of RDR and GTA IV before GTA VI, after, or not at all? I’m personally all for remasters so long as they are handled properly and don’t cause more frustration than they are worth.

Ford Bronco Heading to Europe in 'Limited' Quantities - CNET

The auto industry is rife with forbidden fruit, whether it’s Americans lusting over small European cars or Europeans jonesing for high-horsepower American metal. But, as Europe is about to find out, not all fruit stays forbidden forever.

Ford on Monday announced that it will bring the Bronco SUV to Europe. Ford didn’t offer up too many details just yet, saying only that the Bronco will arrive in certain left-hand-drive markets, and that quantities will be “strictly limited.” It should go on sale in late 2023, so Europeans keen to get their hands on one will have some time to figure out how to do that.

By the sounds of Ford’s press release, the EU-market Bronco won’t be much, if at all different from the US-spec Bronco. All the off-road capability is still there, all the cabin tech remains the same, which means it should function as a pretty potent competitor to the Land Rover Defender. A veritable Sears catalog of accessory parts is available for owners to personalize their vehicles, as well.

It’s unclear which of the Bronco’s many variants will show up in Europe. In the US, we’re privy to eight different models, from the base model all the way up to the extra-chunky Raptor. Nearly all are available in a choice of two- or four-door versions, and a 2.3-liter I4 and 2.7-liter twin-turbo V6 are available at different points in the lineup, as well. Autocar’s report casts doubt on the 3.0-liter V6 Bronco Raptor making it to Europe, but hey, some Broncos are better than no Broncos, right?

Late 2023 isn’t exactly around the corner, so it’s likely that Ford will trickle out more information about European Broncos as we creep closer to the targeted on-sale date.
