Exclusive: BBC Presenter Is Slammed For Using Phrase ‘Pro-Life’ In Discussion On Supreme Court Abortion Ruling –

BBC Presenter Is Slammed For Using Phrase ‘Pro-Life’ In Discussion On Supreme Court Abortion Ruling

The BBC has been pulled into the controversy following the US Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v Wade, after one of its news presenters used a controversial term on air.

Today presenter Amol Rajan used the term “pro-life” twice on air to describe anti-abortion campaigners.

During the flagship BBC radio news programme, Rajan eschewed the BBC News style guide which advises journalists to use the term “anti-abortion rather than pro-life” in a discussion about the ruling’s repercussions, and used the latter description in a discussion with the BBC’s North America editor Sarah Smith:

“As you say, Sarah, this is not the end but the end of the beginning. Because for the pro-life groups, for the pro-life coalition, who have been campaigning for this for many, many years, since Roe v Wade actually, they’re very ambitious, aren’t they, there’s a lot more that they want to achieve.”

The second time came during an interview with a North Dakota-based clinician, when he said: “The argument from the pro-life organisations is that life is life.”

Hannah Barham-Brown deputy leader of the UK’s Women’s Equality Party, told the Guardian newspaper the use of “pro-life” was disappointing: “Anti-choice campaigners have long tried to hide behind the facade of being ‘pro-life’ when the reality is that they are anything but – they are really trying to restrict women’s freedoms.”

This criticism comes just a day after another BBC presenter, Sophie Long who fronts Radio 4’s The World Tonight, was criticised for using the phrase “pregnant people” during her programme’s coverage of the Supreme Court ruling, and the enactment in Arkansas of a near-total ban on terminations.

Long was quoting the National Abortion Federation when she reported them saying, “Knowing how many women and pregnant people would now not be able to get care was “devastating.”

The BBC later amended the report on its website.

Freshly single Lori Harvey seemed to be ultra confident after her recent split from actor Michael B. Jordan. In some candid photos captured two weeks after her surprising breakup, the stunning model was seen sporting a cheeky smile on her face while she rocked an ultra cropped white tank top and trendy baggy camouflage cargo pants. She accessorized the look with some square black shades, silver hoop earrings, an assortment of bracelets, and a tiny printed purse slung over her shoulder.

However, this isn’t the only time that Lori has been seen out in public rocking an edgy outfit since living the single life. On June 24, 2022, she was pictured in a strapless, form fitting blue and white bustier top and matching pants at a party for supermodel Bella Hadid. There, she also adorned minimalist white pointy heels and had her silky hair down in loose curls.

Lori, who also happens to be television host Steve Harvey‘s adopted daughter, got together with the Black Panther actor approximately 18 months ago, before they broke up in June 2022. Appearing to be a couple quite deeply in love, Lori and Michael’s seemingly sudden split came as a surprise to many people close in their lives. “Lori and Michael’s friends were stunned when they found out they had broken up. They felt like they were the perfect couple and they can’t believe they’ve decided to go their separate ways,” an EXCLUSIVE SOURCE told HollywoodLife. “It’s really sad because everybody thought they were so adorable together and seemed so in love.”

As to how the couple themselves are dealing with the breakup, they are both reportedly having quite a difficult time, according to an insider source from People.“Michael and Lori are both completely heartbroken,” the source told the outlet. However, Lori appears to distracting herself the best way she can with frequent outings in some seriously chic getups. “They still love each other. They had great times together and brought out the best in each other” the insider added. Since then, Michael has erased any trace of Lori from his official Instagram page.

Exclusive: Paul McCartney pays tribute to Johnny Depp during Glastonbury headline set –

Paul McCartney has used his headlining set at the iconic Glastonbury festival to pay tribute to his friend Johnny Depp.

While the former Beatle performed the song ‘My Valentine’, a black-and-white video of Depp – in the song’s original video clip – was projected onto the screen.

The choice appears to be a show of support and solidarity for Depp, who recently was involved in a six-week highly-publicised defamation trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard.

He didn’t directly address the trial, but the crowd cheered as Depp’s image appeared on-screen.

This isn’t actually the first time the singer has referenced Depp on stage this year – back in May, he showed the same footage during a concert on his Get Back Tour before the trial’s verdict had been determined.

The footage itself shows the Pirates of the Caribbean star with Natalie Portman, while he plays guitar and translates the lyrics into sign language.

McCartney, 80, has made history with his performance, as the oldest-ever act to headline the festival.

Some people on social media have criticised McCartney’s support of Depp. “Imagine how hard it is to explain to a 14 year old boy, who sees much of life through TikTok, that Johnny Depp probably isn’t the idol he’s presented as,” one person wrote.

“I’d done that. And then Paul McCartney, one of his heroes, blasts his image out at Glastonbury.”

Others have pointed out that female artists at the festival have used their sets to discuss the recent Supreme Court ruling that overturns legal abortions.

“On one stage Megan Thee Stallion is encouraging the crowd to shout ‘my body, my mother f—ng choice’,” someone shared on Twitter. “On the other stage Paul McCartney is showing a video of Johnny Depp.”

Olivia Rodrigo dedicated the song “F— You” to the Supreme Court, Phoebe Bridgers led her audience in a chant of “f— the Supreme Court”, and Billie Eilish told the crowd “today is a really, really dark day for women in the US”.

McCartney brought special guests out on stage for his performance: Bruce Springsteen and Dave Grohl. He also honoured his late bandmate John Lennon and performed with George Harrison’s ukulele.
