Manchester United are in talks with emerging talent Alejandro Garnacho over a new contract amid interest in the 17-year-old from several of Europe’s biggest clubs, 90min understands.
Garnacho, who joined United’s academy from Atletico Madrid in 2020, made his first-team debut in April and recently received the prestigious Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award – he joins an illustrious list of winners including Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Wes Brown and Marcus Rashford.
The teenage winger recently helped deliver United’s first FA Youth Cup in 11 years and in March was even called into Argentina’s senior squad for World Cup qualifiers, although he did not play.
United are now seeking to reward Garnacho for his progress by discussing a new deal.
His talent has not gone unnoticed by rival clubs, with a number of European giants taking an interest in his performances at the recent Maurice Revello Tournament – formerly known as the Toulon Tournament – for Argentina’s Under-20 side.
Garnacho scored four goals at the annual youth competition as the Albiceleste finished fifth overall, with Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund all watching him play on more than one occasion.
On the latest edition of Talking Transfers, Harry Symeou hosts as 90min’s transfer correspondent Graeme Bailey and Toby Cudworth who discuss the futures of Bukayo Saka, Raphael Leao, Romelu Lukaku, Kalvin Phillips, Youri Tielemans, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Raphinha, Gabriel Jesus and more!
Having been given an early chance in the first-team by Ralf Rangnick, the next step for Garnacho is impressing new permanent United boss Erik ten Hag, who has been revered for player development since guiding a young Ajax side to within a kick of the 2019 Champions League final.
Garnacho is not the only promising young talent on the fringes of the United first-team. Anthony Elanga has already made the permanent step up, but Hannibal Mejbri started the final Premier League game of the season against Crystal Palace, while Shola Shoretire made more senior appearances in 2021/22, and James Garner is returning from a successful loan.
